MTC Unveils Third Edition of the Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE) 2025, Set to Elevate Global Timber Trade
The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) officially launched the highly anticipated Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE) 2025 at the GlassHouse at Seputeh on 25 November 2024. MWE, a premier international trade fair dedicated to the wood and woodworking machinery sector, is one of MTC’s flagship programmes. The 2025 edition will mark the third edition of the expo, following the success of its debut in 2019 and the equally well-received return in 2023.
With each iteration, MWE has grown in stature, attracting world-renowned machinery manufacturers and a distinguished lineup of international buyers and industry professionals. The previous two editions of the event had generated an impressive RM320.78 million in sales revenue, underscoring the expo’s significant role in driving growth and business prospects within the timber sector.
The MWE 2025 is scheduled to take place from 10 to 12 November 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, marking another milestone for the region’s timber industry.
“MWE stands not only as a testament to the remarkable achievements of our industry, but also serves as a gateway to numerous new opportunities, further advancing the Malaysian timber sector, in particular. It is truly exciting to see how MWE continues to champion innovation, foster collaboration and drive success,” said MTC Chairman Tuan Haji Zainal Abidin Haji Abdullah in his welcoming remarks.
He further added that MTC has an exciting and comprehensive programme planned for all participants. Apart from the exhibition, there will also be interactive talks and networking opportunities. One of the standout features of the expo is the business matching sessions, which offer valuable opportunities for industry players to engage in meaningful and productive connections.
“MWE is poised to be a key platform to showcase Malaysian craftsmanship and quality that is already recognised worldwide. Hosting the expo in 2025 is also opportune as it will coincide with Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN, allowing MWE to take a more prominent role to link timber-based businesses in ASEAN and foster innovation as well as collaboration,” said Minister of Plantation and Commodities YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
“We are also excited to announce that MTC will continue to organise the Incoming Buying Mission (IBM), bringing in trade buyers from around the globe. Besides that, MTC will continue to facilitate high-impact meetings between foreign timber suppliers and potential Malaysian buyers through our Inbound Overseas Suppliers (IOS) programme. The success of both IBM and IOS programmes in previous editions has far exceeded expectations,” said MTC CEO Madam Noraihan Abdul Rahman.
MTC looks forward to building on that momentum and delivering an even more successful MWE 2025. With the timber sector playing a crucial role in Malaysia’s economic growth, MWE 2025 is poised to further elevate the industry’s global standing while supporting innovation, sustainability and excellence in craftsmanship.
Also present at the launch ceremony were Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities Dato’ Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof, and MTC’s Board of Trustees.
With its proven track record, MWE 2025 promises to be a cornerstone event for the timber industry, showcasing Malaysian craftsmanship, fostering international collaborations, and driving innovation. As MTC continues to champion the growth of the sector, MWE 2025 is set to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a global leader in timber and woodworking excellence, while creating impactful opportunities for industry players worldwide.
